In early 2016, China's National Office of Anti-Pornography and Illegal Publications, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Cyberspace Administration of China, and National Radio and Television Administration, launched a campaign against distribution of obscene content via cloud drives. Following public reports, it was confirmed that Xunlei's Kuaichuan cloud product contained prohibited material. On May 13, 2016, the Nanshan District Publishing Bureau of Shenzhen issued administrative penalties against Xunlei, including a time-limited rectification order and fines.
On April 5, 2017, Youku filed a lawsuit against Xunlei in court, alleging infringement of online distribution rights for the drama Eternal Love, and seeking 2 million CNY in damages alongside an injunction against the infringing activities.
On August 21, 2017, member companies of the Motion Picture Association of America prevailed in their copyright infringement case against Shenzhen Xunlei Networking Technologies Co., Ltd. The Nanshan District People's Court of Shenzhen ordered Xunlei to pay a total of 1.4 million CNY in damages to the MPAA member companies.
