Weiyun (微云, weiyun.com) is a cloud storage service launched by Tencent on July 12, 2012. It supports iOS, Android, PC, and Mac platforms, providing file synchronization, backup, and sharing capabilities. The service has grown to over 400 million users and is tightly integrated into Tencent's existing product ecosystem, including WeChat, QQ, and QQ Mail.
Regular users receive 10 GB of free storage space. The service supports intelligent photo album backup with smart categorization by people, scenery, and location, cross-device file transfer, online preview for multiple file formats, cloud video playback, and shared group storage. In December 2021, Weiyun removed download speed limits for non-member users following an app update.
Weiyun requires a Chinese phone number to register, and accessing the service requires a Chinese IP address for stable connections. Purchasing a Super Member plan also requires a Chinese payment method such as Alipay or WeChat Pay.

Weiyun supports automatic file synchronization through the client "Sync" settings or the standalone Weiyun Sync Assistant tool. Users can designate local folders to stay in sync with cloud storage across devices, maintaining data consistency without manual uploads. Edits made on one device are automatically reflected on others after saving.
Weiyun automatically backs up photos and videos from mobile devices to cloud storage. All backed-up photos retain original quality. The service uses intelligent image recognition to automatically categorize photos by people, scenery, food, and other classifications. Photos can be searched by keyword, capture time, or location, with the image recognition engine enabling content-aware photo retrieval.
Files can be shared by generating a shareable link that recipients can use to view, download, or save files to their own Weiyun account. The file collection function lets users gather files from others without requiring senders to log in. Collected files are visible only to the link creator. Both single files and multiple file selections can be shared or collected.
Weiyun supports online preview for multiple file formats including documents, images, and compressed archives without downloading. Office documents can be edited online with synchronized changes across devices. Compressed file archives can be previewed, and cloud video playback is supported with variable speed playback available to Super Members.
Weiyun uses multi-layer encryption for both transmission and storage, complemented by data redundancy backup. A file vault feature available to Super Members provides an additional protected space for sensitive files. Version history management allows users to view and restore previous versions of files, adding a recovery layer against accidental overwrites.
Weiyun has deep integration across Tencent's product suite. Shortly after its 2012 launch, it was integrated with WeChat to enable direct file sharing within conversations, and embedded into QQ Mail as a native attachment and storage destination. It is also integrated into Tencent TIM, the business-oriented messaging client built on QQ infrastructure.
The Super Member upload allowance is specifically designed around Tencent platform workflows: the 40 GB daily ultra-fast upload quota applies to files transferred from QQ Mail, QQ offline messages, QQ groups or discussion groups, and links saved from shared content. This makes Weiyun the natural storage destination for files flowing through Tencent's communication tools.
The Q Disk product (Tencent's earlier cloud storage offering) was upgraded and merged into Weiyun in January 2013, consolidating Tencent's cloud storage into a single platform.
Weiyun launched on July 12, 2012, with simultaneous releases for Web, Android 1.0, and Windows 1.0. The iPhone version followed in August 2012. Within weeks, Weiyun was integrated with WeChat for direct in-chat file sharing, and embedded into QQ Mail in October 2012.
Tencent's Q Disk was upgraded and merged into Weiyun in January 2013, consolidating the company's cloud storage products. The developer API opened in March 2013. The user base surpassed 100 million by May 2013. In July 2013, Weiyun celebrated its first anniversary with a storage expansion event that permanently increased free user storage to 100 GB.
Weiyun was among the first eight cloud storage providers to sign the "Self-Discipline Convention for Personal Cloud Storage Service User Experience Protection" in Beijing, under guidance from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The signatories committed to launching equal upload and download speed products for all user types by end of 2021.
Following its commitment under the self-discipline convention, Weiyun removed download speed limits for non-member users through an app update. Non-member users were allocated 5 GB of free storage space under the updated terms.
Weiyun updated to version 6.10.15 on January 14, 2026, the latest version as of the time of writing.
